Celebrating #GivingTuesday with Dr. Elsa Jungman

Today marks GivingTuesday, a global movement dedicated to celebrating the power of generosity and how it can change our very own communities. This is a day that means a lot to myself and my team and I wanted to share the nonprofit organization we’ve decided to partner with this year.

For GivingTuesday, we’re giving back to the nonprofit organization: GIRL STEM STARS. Something that’s always remained very close to my heart is getting more women involved in the field of STEM.

As a female scientist myself, I’ve realized that the power us women have to change the world is unlimited. The young girls that many of us have in our very own lives have endless potential and in a world full of opportunity, we should choose to empower them in any way that we can as it can make a difference.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where many young women don’t have easy access to STEM education. Thanks to nonprofit organizations like Girl STEM STARS, they are working to change this by fostering excitement, confidence and literacy in STEM for girls of color, particularly for those from underrepresented communities. 

The organization, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, serves as an inclusive, safe space for young women of all ages and abilities to get access to STEM education so that they can open themselves up to a range of endless possibilities. 

We’ve decided to donate 10% of our proceeds from our Black Friday sale to Girl STEM STARS this year to show our appreciation and support to a powerful cause. This organization aligns very closely with our mission and we of course invite you to participate in this initiative as well. 

One thing about GivingTuesday is that it is something all people can take part in. As we continue to navigate these uncertain times, there’s nothing more important than coming together and showing support to people who are working hard to make this world a better place for everyone. 

Whether your participation involves showing kindness to others, showing gratitude to the hard workers in your life or simply spreading the word on social media, we invite you to do something today that involves giving back to your community in some way.
