Dr. Elsa Jungman's 2020 Holiday Gift Guide
This year our holidays will be a little more special as we cannot always be with our loved ones. For myself, at 7 months pregnant, I’ll be staying home in San Francisco and celebrating with my husband.
During this time of the year, I often feel a bit nostalgic about Paris. I love the holidays there and all of the indie designers and artists. I have decided to put a gift guide of my favorite US & French items to bring the best of both worlds until we can travel again!
Hair:
Rapid Dry Waffle Hair Turban
My personal favorite for hair care at home or while traveling is this hair turban from the brand, Aquis. It is made with a fabric called Aquitex® which has helped reduce water damage without having the use more haircare products. This is perfect for those who are looking for an efficient way to keep your hair healthy throughout the year.
Makeup:
La Bouche Rouge Paris
I discovered this brand during my trip to Paris last year at Merci concept store. I loved their concept, mission and their shades. It is the only lipstick I’ve been using since! What makes this brand different is that they don’t use plastic in their products. Their products also consist of clean, vegan and cruelty-free ingredients, so you are getting a product that is perfect for people and the planet.
Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara
It was hard for me to find a mascara that would give me the volume I was looking for, without being difficult to remove. Ilia is a big winner for me, because it doesn’t dry out my eyes. I can also use a gentle cleanser to remove it at the end of the day. It is affordable and a great gift for the beauty-lovers in your life.
Health:
Flore Personalized Probiotics & Gut Microflora Test
If you want to learn about your microbiome & gut health, Flore is a great science backed company based in San Diego. I know the founder and they've built an amazing platform to analyze your gut microbiome and deliver personalized probiotics according to your results.
Home:
UrbanStems Flowers - ‘The Catskill’ Bouquet
I love making my own dry flowers bouquets for my home from the fresh flowers I receive. I can enjoy flowers for many years in a more sustainable way. I recently discovered that UrbanStems, a modern flower and plant delivery company, was expanding their offer of dry flowers. I figured it’d be a great gift to give as it is more durable than fresh flowers. Their bouquets also provide an inviting feel to any space.
Books:
‘Beyond Soap’ by Christopher Shulgan and Sandy Skotnicki
This book provides expert tips from dermatologist, Dr. Sandy Skotnicki. I really share Dr Sandy Skotnicki’s vision when it comes to skin care, with the less is more approach. If you want to take time to learn more about your skin, the impact of products and how to take best care of it for you and your loved one, this book is a go to.
‘Accidentally’ by Wes Anderson
This book by director Wes Anderson, explores unique locations and destinations across the world. I have been following their Instagram for many years. Now that we can’t travel, this new book has great photography of unexpected places around the world. This is the perfect book to plan your travels post-pandemic!
French Gifts:
Gazette Store
Gazette Store has a wide selection of carefully curated French apparel, accessories and cosmetics to those who value exquisite goods and craftsmanship. We have had the pleasure of organizing many workshops before the pandemic at Gazette in San Francisco. Unfortunately, with the pandemic their store closed, but they’ve brought their amazing curation of small French brands online to shop from.
Clothing and Accessories: Tannenbaum Atelier
You can find beautiful clothing and accessories designed in Paris by Violette Tannenbaum. She is incredibly talented and designed my wedding city hall and ceremony outfits!
From her online store, you can purchase ready-to-wear clothing that is handmade by order to have a piece in your closet that is guaranteed to be one-of-a-kind. Visit the website to view the new pieces that are available.
Art Pieces from French Artist, Virginie Hucher
I discovered Virginie Hucher’s work during my last trip to Paris, in 2019 and fell in love with her creations. I have been following her ever since and love everything she is doing. Elegant, abstract and an amazing color palette! You can visit her website to take a closer look at her art pieces, many of which can be purchased as a gift or to add a French-twist to your very own space!
